Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
You can't get 300 wins and not be a great coach, the area will miss Robbins. He had some teams that were able to put up points in bunches and sometimes that stings a little. He had some great players, but a coach can kill a team, if he isn't good at what he is doing. The folks complaining are the same kind that talked about going to a nickle ,dime or a 3-4 in Appy's last state game- sometimes you have to play with the kids you have. Anyway, congrats to a great coach and - so,long and good luck.
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
robbins will be missed that is definite, i always admired him for his X's and O's ability, great man to talk football to! enjoyed him as a patient and learned that you cant always believe everything you hear. Grats phil!
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
Not my favorite type of guy. This season the playcalling has had me scratching my head.
All that aside, he's still one of the best coaches in the state. You've brought a lot to Powell Valley, coach.

Are you saying it is okay to call Richlands Head coach the greatest coach ever considering the talent he has?Do you not feel like the athletes on that team deserve some credit?
Pretty much the way practice has always been..
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
Phil and I never got along at all in LPD meetings and such, probably cause we are both stubborn buttholes, but I will say that he is one of the best and the numbers don't lie.
Congrats to him for being a great coach but I still don't like him much and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
A good coach whom I would have liked to seen win with more class over outmatched teams. He has the wins and the trophies and a coaching style unlike others in this area. I wonder if he would have had the same numbers if he would have stayed at John Battle? I guess we will never know, but anyway enjoy retirement.
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
I have always loved his interviews. He always says what is on his mind no matter if it is wrong, right, or if it hurts any ones feelings. Seems like Thurman at VHS is trying to take that place but he will never be another Robbins!
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
Gratz Coach Robbins I hope you continue your success in your future endeavors. Hell of a coach! Hats off and Thumbs up:2thumbsup:
Re: Congrats to Phil Robbins...
Congrats,, I met him one time at a baseball game at PVHS. He took me and my buddy into the school and showed us the facilities. We shared some stories about Christiansburg and knew some of the same people and businesses. We just missed each other by a few years, ha.. He is very genuine and pleasing to talk with. I have no opinion one way or another as a coach. But he has accomplished a feat that very few coaches will ever attain.

Coach Robbins is a great coach and a great guy. Some people had problems with him but he was great to me.
